Night Roost Necklace
“WHILE THE STARS STILL SHINE ALL DREAMS ARE POSSIBLE”
Sterling silver “Night Roost” necklace.
This whimsical yet rugged crow pendant measures approximately 1 1/8″ tall. Deeply etched with the silhouette of two crows perched in a tree below the night sky, it has been hammered and distressed, then oxidised and brushed to highlight all the details. Finally it was given a gentle polish for just a subtle shine. It has a wonderfully raw, tactile feel, and hangs from a chunky 20″ oxidised sterling silver belcher chain. All loops are soldered for strength. It symbolises hope, loyalty, love and endless possibilities.
There is a wealth of mythology surrounding crows in numerous cultures. For the ancient Greeks, the crow was a symbol of Apollo in his role as god of prophecy; a symbol of good luck and communication. In some cultures, seeing a crow means hope for the future and that the heart’s true wishes will be fulfilled, while some Native American cultures see the crow as a wise adviser and protector. I love this particular image of two crows hanging out together, as for me, it symbolises friendship, love and companionship. I am fortunate to have two pairs of crows living nearby, who are always happy to see me and accept the occasional peanut. This is my homage to them, my feathered friends.
May this totem crow pendant be your own personal guardian. May it bring hope, good fortune and the belief that anything is still possible if you just dream it.
Each piece is individually hand-forged by me. Just two hands, traditional tools and a whole lot of love. There may therefore be very slight differences in each piece, but this means that your crows, in some small way, will be entirely unique to you.
Part of my “Wild Earth” collection, a celebration of the natural world, its landscapes and wild inhabitants. These pieces are created as a reminder that there is no better designer than Nature, and to find enough beauty to fill the soul, we need only look around us.
Designed and lovingly created in my studio in Moray, Scotland.
I work in sterling silver, ancient bronze, copper and brass, with natural semi-precious gemstones. I make pieces which are perfect for layering together, mixing and matching, so you can grow your collection and choose your pieces according to your mood, or the inspiration you want to gain that day.
Each piece is unique. Whilst I may create similar pieces, as every piece is made individually by hand, no two will ever be the same. I am registered with Edinburgh Assay Office for precious metal work.
