Long sterling silver river gorge necklace, with golden sun detail.
This piece is inspired by my love of rivers, and the immense and awe-inspiring gorges and canyons they create on our planet. The Rio Grande and Colorado rivers cut their way through some of my favourite places in the US, and this is my homage to them and every other river that breathes life and change into their surroundings.
The sterling silver pendant, including circular loop section, measures 1 1/2″ tall, and has been entirely hand-forged. It was deeply etched with an intricate river gorge design, and a golden brass sun was soldered above. It was then hammered and distressed for an aged, rugged feel, and lightly oxidised to highlight the detailing. A light polish gives it just the right amount of shine. The lower portion of the pendant swings freely from the loop, creating interest and movement when worn.
The pendant hangs from a long, sturdy, oxidised, 28″ sterling silver chain. With no clasp to fiddle with, this can be easily just slipped over the head, perfect for when you’re in a hurry. All loops are soldered closed for strength and durability, just like the mighty rivers which inspired the piece. A beautifully tactile piece, with just the right amount of weight.
