My Story
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to work with silver. It took many years – a legal career that left me unfulfilled, then battling an injury and illness that left me lost and unsure – before I found my way to working fully with this metal that I love. I feel so lucky to create. Each piece is a joy, and my studio is my haven.
I work in my small studio in Moray, Scotland, just a short walk from the sea, and a short drive from the mountains. I use traditional metalsmithing tools and techniques to create jewellery that appears to have a story to tell, a quiet history. Working with sterling silver, ancient bronze, rich copper and golden brass, often accented by natural semi-precious gemstones, each piece is patiently hand-forged, so no two designs will ever be exactly the same. Yours will always be unique to you in some small way. I aim to create jewellery that speaks to you, jewellery that has an emotional connection. Raw, soul-filled, rugged pieces that could have been forged in fires thousands of years ago and only recently unearthed. Each one waiting patiently for the right wearer.
My inspiration comes from my senses and surroundings; the sights, sounds and places that move me. Nature is humbling. Vast skies over bronzed desert floors or surging oceans. Silvered mountains looking down on forceful rivers and brilliant blue lakes. Birdsong echoing through forests filled with the tallest trees. Hidden petroglyphs waiting to be found and cautious wildlife trying not to be. Traces of wise warrior nations and ancient customs. The smell of sage and wildflowers, and the sound of wind whispering through narrow canyons or around harbour walls. I try hard to capture these places I love, and the feelings they create, in my jewellery. Oh, and I’m enamoured with corvids – crows, ravens, magpies – they constantly inspire me. You will find my designs full of these beautiful birds, as my homage to them.
